Who needs it

Signs you need AI governance now

Your team is probably already using AI. The question is whether anyone has decided how.

  • Staff use AI tools without a written policy
  • You handle FCI, CUI or regulated data that could end up in a prompt
  • You are building AI features into your product
  • Customers are adding AI questions to security questionnaires

FAQ

Common questions

Can we put CUI into AI tools?

Only into tools approved for CUI, which generally means environments meeting FedRAMP Moderate or equivalent. Most consumer AI tools are not.

Do we need ISO/IEC 42001?

It isn’t required. It is most useful for companies that build AI into products and want an auditable certification.

Does AI governance affect our CMMC or SOC 2?

Yes. Data entered into AI tools falls under the same handling, access and vendor controls as the rest of your environment.

Where do we start?

With an inventory and a short, clear AI use policy. Most organizations can have both in place quickly.
