When to test

Signs it’s time for a pen test

A vulnerability scan tells you what might be wrong. A penetration test shows what an attacker can actually do with it.

  • You’re preparing for a CMMC, SOC 2 or PCI DSS assessment
  • Your cyber insurer is asking for proof of testing
  • You’ve never been tested, or not in the last year
  • You’ve made major changes to your network, cloud or applications

What we test

Four core tests, scoped to your risk

External network

Your internet-facing systems, as an outside attacker sees them.

Internal network

What an attacker could reach after getting a foothold inside.

Web application

Your apps and portals, tested against common attack techniques.

Microsoft 365 and cloud

Identity, configuration and access weaknesses in your tenant.

Social engineering testing is available as an add-on. Our methodology follows NIST SP 800-115, PTES and OWASP guidance.

FAQ

Common questions

What’s the difference between a pen test and a vulnerability scan?

A scan is automated and lists potential weaknesses. A pen test uses skilled testers to exploit them and show the real impact.

Will testing disrupt our operations?

We agree on testing windows and rules of engagement up front and avoid techniques that risk downtime unless you approve them.

How often should we test?

At least once a year and after significant changes. Some frameworks, such as PCI DSS, require it.

Does CMMC require penetration testing?

CMMC Level 3 includes a penetration testing requirement. At Level 2 it isn’t required, but it is strong evidence that your controls work.
